Fat Kid Running:
Longlisted for Best Spoken Word Show in the 2018 Saboteur Awards.
Wee Reviews saw the show’s debut with Flint & Pitch in May 2017 – they gave it four stars:
“With Fat Kid Running, [Linden] Katherine McMahon presents an honest and brilliant spoken word theatre show that is filled with powerful words and attention grabbing imagery. The performer’s beaming personality is present throughout and this allows the show to unfurl with an easy energy and a joyful glee that is infectious and entertaining.”
Sabotage Reviews saw the show at the Camden People’s Theatre in March 2018. They said:
“The ‘real’ world of school, GP surgeries, and afternoon tea is overlaid with another world of magic and metaphor. It is this that elevates Fat Kid Running to something truly special… Fat Kid Running is a powerful, necessary work… [after the show] the theatre bar filled with friends and strangers sharing their own stories of awful PE teachers, sizeist bullying, and bodily reclamation. The show had worked a powerful magic on us, lifting the stigma around these discussions, and that itself was more than worth the price of admission.”
Treasure in the History of Things:
“[Treasure in the History of Things] is gorgeous… [The poetry has] a self-awareness coupled with wonder at nature that makes it rather charming. There should be more poets who can both marvel at anthropomorphised wind that ‘scrawls its name across my cheeks’ and discuss astronomers’ wavelengths.” Dana Bubulj, Sabotage Reviews
“[Linden Katherine McMahon is] a mellifluous performer… [Treasure in The History of Things contains] some very beautiful and thoughtful pieces.” Elizabeth Rimmer, The Scottish Review of Books
Performance:
“[Linden] has immense stage charm, and a naturalness in performance that helps [their] words really reach the audience.” Andrew Schlater, Sphinx Reviews
“The highlight of the night.” James Webster and Dana Bubulj, Sabotage Reviews
“Linden is a real leading light of the spoken word scene here in Edinburgh. I’ve seen them captivate audiences from dive bars to alongside a full orchestra.” Harry Josephine Giles
Workshops:
“I found today’s workshop really inspiring… It was very well structured and facilitated, and testament to your gentle approach that everyone read their work and contributed feedback.” Workshop participant
Projects:
“Speak Out was an ideal project to be part of as a professional poet: well organised, with clear aims, good communication and strong support, that took real care of participants and facilitators. I think this work is incredibly important and I was proud to be part of it.” Workshop leader, Speak Out project
“This was a wonderful event. I found the environment very supportive and encouraging… I was deeply moved by the stories that were shared and really appreciated being able to share in those moments in such a lovely, caring, environment.” Audience member, Naked Among Thistles book launch
